i went to my first monet exibit when i was 5 and i remember having a tour guide and never once did they mention his muse, his wife, the woman behind the man, thank you for shedding light on an artist so well known and beloved and the woman behind him this entire time
Oh what a beautiful (and unique) piece !!! such a breath of fresh air on the (already) great newsletters ive been reading. excitex to read more of this!
oh to be loved by an artist... thankyou for this piece, I learnt a lot - to think Monet is one of my favourite artists and I never knew Camille's name.
I knew nothing of this! I love Monet's work but know little of his personal life. Thanks so much for your work putting this story together and for sharing it with us.
I think this has become one of my favorite articles I’ve read here! Thank you for sharing this, I love art and learning all that went behind some of the most beautiful paintings it’s always lovely!
Finding someone you love as a painter means your love inevitably intertwines with your desire to capture them in a permanence different to a photo, when you paint you’re seeing and that is often charged with the love you feel. Other people may see a flaw but a painter sees beauty and uniqueness and it becomes clear when they paint. Thank you for this brilliant essay!
Thank you for this article! I didn't know about their relationship and the portrait of Camille on her deathbed hit both my sister and I hard, because it reminded us about our mother's last days.
Coincidentally, I was in a secondhand book store yesterday and thought about your article which I read right before that visit, so I looked through the art books and found his biobiography. Just started reading it. Thank you again, it was a nice catalyst for me to educate myself more.
